  Jws and poverty

  when i say poverty, i mean not knowing where your next meal is coming from or being unable to pay your bills or afford necessary medicines poverty.

  i'm talking the kinds of poor people who have to get food from charities kind of poor, or long term unemployment living in a trailer/caravan kind of poor.

  holes in clothes poor.

  Individual jws may help others and give them a hand up if they're jws themselves, but the org as a whole has no charity for its own members. According to them, Jehovah will look after you and if you're poor and destitute, it's either a test from Satan or you're not 'putting the kingdom first". If you were, Jehovah would give u all u need, right?

  The wt couldn't have a charity for unfortunate jws because it would undermine their promise that if you always go witnessing and to the meetings, Jehovah will provide.

  I'm Really Disappointed

  having been out 5 yrs.

  & attending numerous christmas parties & family get togethers, i can't tell you how disappointed i am.

  i was led to believe wild debauchery, drinking & fighting was the norm.

  Yeah Christmas has been a breeze: my family is happy, we enjoy good food, the children and adults alike love giving each other gifts, and none of us has gone into debt, get drunk or fight.

  Oh a couple of years ago a JW I know had a party on Christmas night and it got so wild the police were called, people were bashed and drunk, and someone damaged the property. The house owner didn't press charges though because that person had powerful friends in the congregation.

  If You Were Still "In The Truth" What Type of Life Would You Have?

  do you think you would be just going thru the motions?

  would you be an elder, ms, or pioneer?.

  i think there are many that stay in the religion simply because of family/friends considerations.

  I used to live in Cairns which is the wet tropics of the far north, and brothers would stew in their own sweat on the territory in ties and long pants. We women could wear shorter skirts, sleeveless tops and open shoes so we fared better. The locals must have thought the men were nuts though.

  You got that right. More JWs than any other group I know, when they retire, go on the government pension than have retirement accounts. Even now, in my early 30's, I'm having to think about retirement for the first time. My non-Jw parents were always encouraging me to invest in my financial future but I always brushed it off, thinking Armageddon would take care of that. So, for all the JW oldies retiring and retired, they too thought, decades ago, that planning for retirement wasn't necessary as Armageddon would be here. They got sold down the river to the WT's lies.

  I know of JWs who are planning for retirement, you know, superannuation accounts, investment properties and the like, but they are going against the counsel of the WT. They're not stupid though- they can see all the oldies around them with nothing and no one.

  They are Definitely Attacking "Higher Education"

  a friend of mine recently had his co visit and in the elders meeting the co out-right asked the question: how are the friends doing in your cong.

  as regards pursuing higher education?

  the co continued...you know in view of all the counsel from the slave regarding the dangers.

  Well, let's keep spreading the word to the non jws we know. Jws might not listen, but my family, co workers and therapists are horrified to find out how jws ban education. The more people know about this, the better. The slogan of my local university is Know more- do more. Bring it on.

  How do you guys feel during the holidays?

  this is a very lonely time of year for me i admit it.

  i'm suppose to be going over my aunties house wednesday after work.

  but going to christmas/holiday parties and get togethers, i still kinda feel out of place.. i really wish i grew up celebrating the holidays more.

  I grew up with holidays but turned on them with such a vengeance when i became jw and spat out so much anti holiday venom for so long I feel right awkward about them now, even though my family are very understanding of my post cult jitters and are trying to ease my transition. I figure, I've been without celebrations for so long, I'm in the habit of not caring about them. I also am coming up against the annoyances associated with them that I could easily avoid using religion as an excuse.

  Good observation. To be a jw you have to look a certain way ie wear a suit, so if a wino or parkie is genuinely interested he will get nowhere because he can't afford a suit. Jws also need a lot of books, clothes, shoes and meeting and witnessing crap, so where would a homeless person put all that? No jw would help a homeless person access support services either because jws don't help non jws. People who don't fit the clean-cut, meeting attending mold wouldn't get help for long enough to become jws.

  I'd be extremely mentally ill, even more so than now. I was headed for a huge nervous breakdown, I mean screaming raving jabooba home padded cell breakdown, as well as physical collapse. I found ttatt just in time.

  Warren Jeffs and other cult leaders have done the same: cut people off from education. If you're uneducated and lack many vital life skills, you're not only less likely to question the cult, you are also physically dependent on it, like this DO. Even if he learned ttatt he couldn't leave because he's in a cage and has no wings. He is totally dependent on the cult, like so many others, and that's the way the wt likes it. A poor laborer struggling to feed his kids is dependent on the cult, whereas a doctor or engineer or teacher or executive can just walk away with his or her money.
